Hi there!
I'm a journalist from the South of Brazil obsessed with news and media — and building connections with audiences using great editorial content. I enjoy creating things from scratch, building systems and teams, fixing wicked problems, and having great conversations along the way.
I've worked with multimedia since the beginning of my career. Currently, I'm based in Amsterdam as a part of the Erasmus Mundus Journalism program and working as a freelancer.
As a primary definition of my work, I suppose that the focus in narratives of social transformation is major in my practice. I believe in journalism as a tool of impact; especially for human rights.
In 2019, I had the opportunity to win a scholarship to be a part of the Lede Program at Columbia University, which also gave me an in-depth training in Data Journalism.
I have worked as a reporter, a photographer, and also as a video editor both for news organizations and as a freelancer. In all those positions, I always tried to integrate different ways to best tell a story - whatever the format.
Also, my DMs on Twitter and Instagram are always open and I check them regularly - let's chat! You can also send me an e-mail at: giovanacfleck[at]gmail[dot]com
Ah, e pra quem chega aqui e entende português, pode conhecer mais sobre mim ouvindo essa entrevista que dei sobre jornalismo fora do Brasil para o podcast Comunicasters.
